🇧🇾 Belarus Work Permit Salary and Dependent Sponsorship Rules Rise

Belarus Updates Income Thresholds for Foreign Workers and Family Sponsorship

If you are currently working in or planning to relocate to Belarus, important updates regarding salary and sponsorship thresholds are now in effect for 2025. Belarus recently adjusted its minimum income requirements for work permits, temporary residence applications, and dependent sponsorships. These changes significantly impact eligibility for foreign workers intending to bring their families.

Updated Income Rules for Dependent Sponsorship

Starting November 1, 2025, foreign workers who wish to sponsor their dependents will face new, slightly higher income rules. Authorities review these dependency thresholds quarterly, and applicants must check the latest figures before submission.

Dependent Type Previous Minimum Income (BYN) New Minimum Income (BYN)
Dependent Spouse BYN 2,623.92 BYN 2,624.97 per month
Child (Younger Age) BYN 301.50 BYN 305.86 per child/month
Child (Older Age) BYN 476.97 BYN 479.59 per child/month

To sponsor a spouse, the minimum household income must now reach BYN 2,624.97 per month. Sponsoring a child requires earning an additional amount ranging from BYN 305.86 to BYN 479.59 per child each month, depending on the child’s age.

Higher Salary Thresholds for Work Permit Holders

Along with the increased requirement for dependent sponsorship, Belarus has significantly raised the salary thresholds for work permit holders this year.

To be eligible for the Special Work Permit or Temporary Residence Permit, foreign workers must now earn at least BYN 3,630 per month, a substantial increase from the previous BYN 3,130.

This new salary threshold is set at five times the present national minimum wage of BYN 726 per month.

New Minimum Salary for Other Categories

Foreign workers in all other work categories will now have to meet a higher minimum salary of BYN 2,100 per month. This is a small but steady increase from the previous BYN 2,000, signaling that Belarus encourages employers to compensate foreign workers more fairly.

Payroll, Taxes, and Social Security Obligations

Foreign workers in Belarus must be formally employed on the local payroll, with salaries paid in Belarusian Rubles (BYN). Employers, however, are permitted to link the salary amount to a foreign currency using the bank’s official exchange rate on the payment date.

Employers should note the following additional obligations:

  • Employer Social Security: 34% of the employee’s salary goes toward mandatory social security insurance.
  • Accident Insurance: An extra 6% covers accident insurance.
  • Worker Contribution: Workers contribute 1% of their salary toward social security.
  • Personal Income Tax: 13% of the salary is withheld as personal income tax, though some employees may qualify for deductions based on individual circumstances.

Applicability to Pending and New Applications

The new salary thresholds impact all pending and new applications for work and residence permits. Authorities stress that while these figures are based on general laws, specific cases may involve slight differences depending on the type of job and the sector.

Final Thoughts

If you plan to work or hire foreign staff in Belarus, it is crucial to review these updated salary and financial requirements immediately. These rules apply to both new hires and existing applications. Even small gaps in meeting the income documentation could lead to significant delays in your permit approval
